Know where the numbers come from.
Reignite Health aims to make nutrition data more transparent by documenting the basis, source and review status of published food information.
Our source policy
Every published nutrition record should have a documented source or a clear internal calculation basis. Source information should be retained in the administration system so that the platform team can review and update records over time.
Indian food composition references
Indian food composition references, including publications from ICMR–National Institute of Nutrition, can be useful references for understanding food composition. A publicly accessible publication is not automatically a blanket licence to reproduce its contents in a commercial database.
Where a third-party publication is used, Reignite Health should confirm the applicable copyright, licence and permission requirements before reproducing its data. If permission is required, the platform should obtain it or use a separately licensed source.
What a food record should contain
- Food name and category.
- Serving basis and serving weight where available.
- Calories, protein, carbohydrates, fibre and fat where available.
- Source name and source reference.
- Data basis, such as per 100 g edible portion or per serving.
- Verification/review status and review date.
Verification status
Source data and independently prepared reference values should not be described as "government verified", "ICMR approved", "NIN certified" or similarly endorsed unless the platform has actually received that specific verification or authorisation.
Records that have not been reviewed should be clearly treated as draft or pending verification rather than presented as authoritative clinical values.
Corrections
If you believe a nutrition value or source attribution is incorrect, please use Report an Error. The platform team can then review the record and update, annotate or retire it where appropriate.
Source transparency
Source information is provided to help users understand the basis of a catalogue value. It does not mean that the source organisation endorses Reignite Health unless an explicit endorsement or licence exists.
